Bridget O’Donnel & Her Surviving Children

This engraving was first published in The Illustrated London News, December 1849. Over the subsequent decades this woman, Bridget O'Donnel, has become the personification of the Great Hunger. In this iconic sketch, the artist captured Bridget along with two children after she had been evicted from her home which had been pulled down around her.
